The 38mm f/2.8 pancake lens is the smallest lens in the Pen F system and one of the most famous. It turns the Olympus Pen F camera into a truly pocketable 35mm SLR! And even with the required adapter it's still by far and away the smallest lens I can mount on my Sony A7 Mk II. But while the small size is great, there are some ergonomic compromises necessary to achieve the small size. Instead of a proper focus ring, there are just to tabs on either side of the lens to focus with, and finding them with your eye to the viewfinder can be a quite a challenge! On the half-frame cameras it was designed for it has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 55mm.
But the amazing thing about thislens is that despite the tiny size it cover a full-frame sensor with very little vignetting! So the only difference between the OOC+EC and Cropped images above is actually just a hint of vignetting correction. But as with most Pen F lenses the area outside the half-frame imaging area it is deigned to cover, the drop off in sharpness can be quite dramatic. But as I have already said about other Pen F lenses, I quite like the effect. Sort of like a mild "lensbaby" effect. But there is now doubting that this lens is enormous fun to use.
