West Norwood Cemetery (2019)
West Norwood Cemetery (originally known as 'South Metropolitan Cemetery') was established in 1837 in the London Borough of Lambeth (postcode SE27). It was the very last Magnificent Cemetery I visited bringing the my 4 year project to an end in 2019. Like Nunhead it is rather more difficult to get to on public transport that the other Magnificent 7 cemeteries.
My first impression after finally making the effort to get there were a little disappointing! West Norwood is still a working cemetery so is very much a combination of historic monument cemetery and modern lawn cemetery and crematorium. Much of it lacks the gothic and overgrown atmosphere that is a mark of the other Magnificent 7 cemeteries. But fortunely overgrown corners are still there if you look, and despite my initial disappointment I ended up taking more photographs here than at any other Magnificent 7 cemeteries and I'm certainly glad I made the effort!
