Intentional camera movement
Single exposures (2004-2018)
Multiple exposures (2021-)
I discovered the possibilities of deliberately using long shutter speeds and waving my camera around like a mad person while the shutter is open a long time ago. The earliest images in this gallery were shot in 2004 with my old Canon Powershot S45 digicam. What I didn't have was a name for this technique. I realised everyone else was calling this technique "Intentional Camera Movement", or ICM for short, after joining the Edinburgh Photographic Society in around 2019. That's one of the great things about joining a photographic society, or a camera club… you get to share ideas with other enthusiasts.
And it's this process of sharing ideas that introduced me to the idea of combining ICM with multiple exposures (ME for short), with some serious experimentation starting in 2021. You can see examples of both ICM single exposures, and my later efforts with ICM multiple exposures in this gallery. You can see more ICM&ME in the Venetian geometry, When all the world is green and iPhone I.C.M. galleries.
