I was pretty excited to find this lens! f/2.4 lenses from 35mm slide projectors are much rarer than their common or garden f/2.8 cousins Lenses with that slightly wider aperture generally indicates a high end projector lens. And getting this lens in it's original box was a nice little bonus too.
And once I held this beauty in my hot, sticky, little hands I wasn't disappointed! This lens has an all metal lens barrel and a satisfying heft. Fortunately it fits snugly in my standard M42-M52 36-90mm focussing helicoid (look on Amazon or eBay for a similar helicoid) without any modification. The only thing I did was put some Black Tack around the base of the lens to help it stay in place in the focussing helicoid. It focusses to infinity easily with a standard M42 to Sony E mount adapter (again, look on Amazon or eBay if you don't already have one).
And the results? As it often the case with projector lenses, there were some chromatic aberrations, but they were fairly minor, and once they were dealt with in Adobe Lightroom I thought the results were gorgeous! In focus areas were crispy sharp… in fact sharp enough that even in the viewfinder you could tell this was a high quality lens. And the bokeh was subtle and beautiful. All-in-all, I think this is going to be one of my favourite projector lenses and I'm very glad to have it in my collection. It's quite a rare one, but well worth looking out for.
All these photographs were shot in and around the lovely Herefordshire town of Ledbury. As usual the colour black & white ones were done in Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 and the colour ones were processed in Adobe Lightroom.
