Classic camerasPolaroid SLR 680

The Polaroid SLR 680 was launched in 1982. It is basically an SX-70 sonar auto focus SLR but with the exposure system re-calibrated for Polaroid 600 film rather than Polaroid SX-70 film. As you can see an integrated electronic flash was also added. Like all 600 cameras the flash is designed to fire on all exposures indoors and out, but there is still a switch on the back to prevent the flash from firing if you wish.

An upgraded model, the SLR 690 was launched in 1996, initially as a limited production item, but it proved so popular that Polaroid decided to make the SLR 690 a regular part of their line up. Functionally the 690 is identical to the 680, but it has significantly upgraded internal electronics.

Unfortunately this camera is a lot bulkier than the original SX-70 SLR due to the sonar autofocus unit and the flash, but it can still take a nice photo…

When I bought this camera it came with two packs of Polaroid 600 film. This was quite a bonus as this stuff sells for bonkers money on eBay.

At first I was slightly disappointed with this film. The colours are far brighter and way more accurate than anything else I have seen from long outdated Polaroid SX-70 film, but that lacked the character I had come to expect from Polaroid photographs.

But in retrospect I have come to like these 600 shots more and more… but it is unlikely that I will ever actually buy any more Polaroid 600 film!

Film: Impossible PX680 Color Shade

This shot is from my very first pack of Impossible PX680 film, for want of a better subject I just riffled around in the kitchen to see what I could find.

was pleasantly surprised by how these shots turned out… this one was even published in Amateur Photographer in April 2012!
